FACTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE CHOICE OF SCHOOL

Over the years, a lot of admission seekers have been faced with a very important question when they are about to fill the JAMB form.
This single question has been causing a lot of disagreement between parents and their wards. This question is the choice of school when filling out the form. It always appeared that most students prefer to apply to a university where their friends are, or a school where they are free from the prying eyes of their parents. Parents on the other hand, would always love their kids to study in a nearby school so they can keep watch of their wards.

Choosing a school is a one time big task and the process can really be overwhelming. There are a lot of factors or variables that must be considered before choice of school. Since you're going to spend up to four, five years plus of your life in the confinement of an educational block should be given due consideration.

For many bright students, school can be fun and for some, school can be a pain in tbe neck. Consequently, many parents are on the look out for high schools which focuses on helping the students to  thrive in a challenging environment, happiness and academic excellence. In contrast, the need for new jobs, recognition are some of the criteria for choice of school for others.
However, with the current recession that has plumaged our economy, I have painstakingly outlined this factors that you must consider before filling that form. Review each one and select the ones that are most important to you.

1. FINICIAL STATUS: Finance is a very important factor you must consider before choose a school. While some schools are affordable to some, other people might pay through their nose to afford to study in such school. Try to do a background study about fees in the school. Ask yourself if you would be able go pay your tuition fee if accepted to study. Also, some school have a lot of extra curricular charges. Try and know about all these. Like a popular adage that says "cut your coat according to your size" Choose schools that are affordable and offer quality education.

2. SECURITY: While some schools have been portrayed in the light, other are always in the news for the bad things. Cult clashes, rapes, total disregard for human right, religious intolerance, extortion and murder etc, are a common scene in our institutions today. I'll advice you choose a school where your rights, belief and security are respected. Also, try and consider the location of your school to your house. There are times when emergencies happen and you are bound to go home immediately. A student who has a close proximity to the school can easily and quickly go home until situation are under control.

3. ACADEMIC REPUTATION: A school with high level of academic reputation are the highly sought after as employers feel that the people from such schools have a higher level of intellect compared to their counterparts. This might be arguably true but it doesn't mean that other schools are inferior. Schools with constant excellence are a status to reckon with. Awards received by students as well as historical general performance in tests performed by students are some of the facts usually included in high school profile. So, if you think you've got what it takes in academics, you should consider doing a rigorous research about the school that would avail you the platform to showcase your academic prowess.

4. SOCIAL LIFE:  Well, I had to put this in the list. All work and no play..., you know what it is. Since the school is going to be your home for the next four years or so, you need to ascertain if the school is actually what you really wanted in terms of your social life. First of all, you need to ask yourself, does the school have what you are interested in? Is it a party school? Are students allowed to live on campus or off campus? The answers you get from these and several other questions would determine the choice of school you want.

So, before you choose that school, take time to digest this post and always ensure you make the best decision.
