UNIVERSITY SCREENING REQUIREMENTS

Following the directive given by JAMB to all Nigerian universities to speed up their admission process before the stipulated deadline given.
Initially, most schools were reluctant to follow the new directive and resorted into their traditional method of admission. With JAMB unwavering stand on no more post utme, some schools have already complied meanwhile some are at loggerheads with JAMB.

This new method of screening policy was adopted by JAMB to make admission process transparent and that to ensure that the number of exams taken before one is admitted to study in the university is reduced.

This project is quite loudable but some schools have usurp the process as an avenue to extort more money in form of screening fee from students even as there won't be any form of exam whatsoever which has reduced the cost of writing materials, computers for CBT and also reduction in useful man hours.

As the JAMB deadline draws near, a lot of schools have started calling out for screening application. Most schools adopt both online and physical screening exercise giving a very short notice. In order not to be caught off guard, I have decided to compile a list of necessary and vital documents that you must possess before going for the screening exercise. This list is in no way binding but it should serve as a guide to prospective admission seekers.

WAEC/GCE/NECO RESULT: Going for screening this document is a must that one must possess. It is advisable to go with the original for sitation. For those that used awaiting results, pray that your result is released before the physical screening as most schools would not admit such students. If the original result is not yet out, you can still go with a valid online result print out. To get your original WAEC result, click here to see WAEC office in your state.

EXAM RESULT SCRATCH CARD: This is also another important thing you must possess when coming for your physical screening. This card is to verify that you are the real owner of such result and that the subject combination and grades therein are correct.

AFFIDAVIT: During screening, most schools would ask you to tender this document. It can be affidavit to be of a good conduct, affidavit of non membership off a secret cult etc. Note, this is a legal document and anything written therein is binding and serves as a way to checkmate any unruly behaviour while in school. This document can be obtained in any law court in Nigeria.

DOB CERTIFICATE: You would also be asked to tender your birth certificate. Any falsification in this document renders it void. You would need to swear an affidavit before you can be considered for admission.

JAMB RESULT: You would be ask to submit your JAMB result. Make sure that the subject combination is the required combination in respect to your preferred department. Wrong subject combination may see you not admitted or pushed to another department.

CERTIFICATE OF STATE OF ORIGIN: THIS document is asked so as to testify that you are actually from the said state. This certificate can be gotten from the various liaison offices in Nigeria. Click here to check your state liaison office address.
HEALTH CLEARANCE: Some schools do ask for health clearance certificate. This health clearance is mostly mental health clearance, how you handle stress, any form of contagious diseases etc. Your doctor should certify that you are mentally and physically OK before you proceed to your school. University education is not for the faint hearted.

PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH: You should try and upload a more recent passport photograph of yourself of at least not later than three months before screening exercise. The passport should be free from any obstruction such as eye glasses, veil, caps or heavy make up. It should be simple and with the right coloured background as recommended by your preferred school.

NOTE: You are likely to make several photocopies of your documents. So, always go with a extra cash as you never can tell what might  happen.

I wish you all admission this year, amen.
